In order to inform and help our students learn about the variety of Career Pathways available to them, Career Connect Washington has created the Career Connected Learning Continuum (see above).
The first step is Career Awareness and Exploration, which includes activities such as job shadows, internships, career fairs, or learning about careers from local professionals. Examples of events in our region include the Pathway to the Top Career and College Fair and STEM Like Me.
Following Career Awareness & Exploration, is Career Preparation. This includes Pre-Apprenticeship training programs such as the Advanced Manufacturing Academy offered by the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee (AJAC), programs at the Yakima Valley Technical Skills Center (YV-Tech), and CTE Pathways. These programs prepare youth to enter the workforce using industry-specific instruction.
Lastly, the Career Connected Learning continuum culminates in Career Launch. Career Launch includes a paid work experience with aligned classroom learning that culminates in a postsecondary credential, or an Industry Recognized Certificate (IRC) and produces a competitive candidate for meaningful employment.
Examples of Career Launch programs in our region include the new Computer and Software Technician (CAST) program at YV-Tech and Registered Apprenticeship programs such as those offered through AJAC and other apprenticeship training agents.
